Contactul. Bangkok.

As merge zilnic, doar sa nimeresc orarul.

Nici inainte nici dupa. Masajul, industria placerii ocupa un sector in sine.

For the first time in many years when we waited for Santa Claus to come down the chimney, this year he flies away from Otopeni and is called Turkish Airlines... when everybody stays at home, those brave enough to travel are rewarded with a special price... Everything is taken care of... just the Turk has made a bit of a mess, too many tickets sold... so we can stay in Istanbul for a day and a nice amount of money or we can fly first class! Eagerness and curiosity overcome ration so we choose first class... it’s nice but overrated... The contact. Bangkok.

From 0 to 30 centigrades in 9 hours... an intercity train hard to find even in Europe but after... the smells, the smoke, the noise... feelings... the first experience with a tuk tuk... it’s almost as a spell... a spell broken by reality... the hotel room is three meters away from the kitchen exhaust... it doesn’t smell bad just heavy and it doesn’t seem to stop... the luggage is on it’s way... not so bad... the first trip in the chaos of the china town... food, sleep, life, death? Everything in the street and in plain view... so you have 2 choices, either you dive in as deep as possible, or you get horrified... the first choice seems the obvious one... if you don’t see where the food is coming from and how it is cooked, you get a fabulous experience which will make you come all over again... Afterwards there’s a mix of temples, canals, nice Romanians who live in Dubai, palaces and a lot of tom yom, shrimps or noodles, everything right there on the street... it’s worth also a beer at the 65th floor... it’s worth also Nana Plaza... it’s worth also the massage, even if don’t fit completely in the booth... even a cockroach for lunch – at least now you know that you don’t like the taste...

The mixture of local girls in their 20s and the Europeans/Americans/Australians in their 50s is also notable... The Noodle Restaurant Silom where we speak the sign language, but it’s well worth the effort. They cook outside, just like everywhere else, the menu is in Thai, spices and herbs. I would go there every day only if I could remember the opening hours. It’s closed Mondays between 4 and 7 but it’s open until 22. The memory of the taste and smell there is more real than in other places.

China Town – smells everywhere, some better than others. Not recommended to visit the rest rooms. Before or after. It’s hot and dark, it gets dark at 5. The effervescence is peaking in China Town with national tourists strolling the streets through cars, buses, tuk tuks and plastic chairs in the street as an extension to the terraces, themselves in the street. Transgender, waiters in China Town, or women who want to be protected and cared for as a woman with penis confesses in Nana Plaza, the mall of pleasures. The hormones, the surgeries and a sponsor for all this would be desirable. Also here at the mall or in the streets are the white tourists, eager for exotic, some of them stay here for good, becoming themselves exotic. The massage, the pleasure industry is a sector in itself.

It seems that if you stay for a few days in Bangkok, one of these days should be dedicated to the old capital... I’m not so sure... a huge area where only some ruins survived the Burmese invasion and the time... the elephant ride is 100% touristic, but can you miss it?... it’s odd.

Other than that, it seems that everything you so carefully planned on the internet is wasted by the possibilities at hand. Everything that seemed impossible to plan and do is rather easy accomplishable when you get there... It’s a shame about Siem Reap, maybe next time...

Bangkok is an excellent base for going to... well, we went to Myanmar and Koh Mak... next time we’re there we’ll see what other destination we fancy...
